MRI
Magnetic
Resonance Imaging
Since August 2006 our own in-house MRI scanner is fully available
for clinical cases. MRI enables us to obtain a more accurate
diagnosis of the pet’s problem and facilitate surgical
planning. As this is an in-house MR scanner, urgent cases
can be seen the same day or the next day.
What is MRI?
Magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive method of acquiring
images of your pet’s body, painlessly and with great
precision. It can take images in any requested plane and of
any tissue. MRI uses field and radio frequency pulses. It
does not involve the use of radiation (like with x-rays).
Currently no dangerous side effects of MRI are known.
The main clinical uses of MRI are:
- Brain Disease; MRI is the method of choice when investigation
suspected brain disease
- Spinal Disease
- Nasal Disease
- (Peri)-Ocular Disease
- Middle Ear Disease
- Musculo-Skeletal problems of joints, muscles and tendons
- Oncology; Establishing tumour margins and metastatic disease
We work closely together with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Club and provide their MRI screening for Chiari Malformation/Syringo-Hydromyelia.
