Ana Maria Tomaz Coelho is an EBVS and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Ana Maria graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Porto in 2012. During her undergraduate training, she completed externships at the University of Tennessee and referral hospitals in Barcelona and Seville, where she developed a strong interest in veterinary neurology and committed to pursuing specialist training in this field.

In 2013, Ana Maria moved to the United Kingdom after being offered a general rotational internship at a busy referral hospital in Ringwood. She subsequently secured an internship at the University of Liverpool. This was followed by advanced neurology training through an internship and residency programme at Dick White Referrals. In 2022, she achieved the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Neurology.

Ana Maria is passionate about providing high-quality, evidence-based neurological care and has a particular interest in neurosurgery, epilepsy, and inflammatory brain diseases. She finds great fulfilment in improving the quality of life of animals affected by neurological conditions and believes that supporting the family is an essential part of patient care.

Alongside her clinical career, Ana Maria has also participated in charity work supporting stray animals in Peru through the Worldwide Veterinary Service programme.

Outside of work, Ana Maria is a mother of two girls and two cats. Having grown up surrounded by animals, she firmly believes that pets are part of the family, a philosophy that underpins her compassionate and empathetic approach to every case entrusted to her care.
