We’re incredibly proud to share that Charley has achieved publication of her research investigating factors that influence body temperature in anaesthetised dogs undergoing MRI investigations — an important area of study with real impact on patient care.
MRI is essential for diagnosing many complex conditions, particularly in our neurological patients with spinal disorders. To obtain clear images, patients must remain completely still, meaning anaesthesia is required. But anaesthesia affects the body’s ability to regulate temperature — and combined with the low temperatures required in an MRI suite, this often leads to significant hypothermia.
Charley noticed that many patients experienced drops in body temperature during MRI, sometimes becoming severely hypothermic by the end of a scan. Motivated by a desire to improve outcomes, she set out to investigate which factors might place patients at higher risk.
Through her work, Charley has helped identify which patients are more susceptible to hypothermia, allowing our teams to take proactive steps to keep them safer and warmer during imaging. Her research is already shaping our approach and improving patient welfare.
Well done, Charley — your dedication to advancing patient care is inspiring, and we’re incredibly proud to have you as part of the Wear Referrals team!
