The team at Wear know how hard the Covid-19 pandemic has hit charities across the country, which is why we have chosen to donate more than £2,500 to causes in the North East.
In total, we have donated £2,750 to five separate animal charities, with each receiving £550.
Our team chose to help Brysons Animal Shelter in Gateshead, Stray Aid in Durham, Wetheriggs Animal Rescue, near Barnard Castle, the North East-based Wag & Company friendship dog charity and the North East branch of German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GSDR).
We all felt it was important to offer whatever support we could at a time when charities have been heavily affected by a lack of funding due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Our hospital manager Darren Stubbs summarised: “At Wear, we have quickly adapted to the ‘new normal’ created by the lockdown and social distancing measures and are continuing to provide the highest level of care for our patients, clients and referring vets.
“However, we recognise other organisations may be struggling to run to their previous capabilities, with charities among those affected the most as people tighten their belts in these incredibly tough times.
“That’s why we felt it was important to try to do our bit.
“Colleagues who nominated each charity contacted them to tell them of the donations and we hope the money helps them all to continue doing their excellent work at a time when they are needed as much as ever.”
Terry Bowes, from Wetheriggs, was delighted with the donation, saying: “The present situation has seen most of our usual funding streams dry up. That means donations such as this, from Wear Referrals, are very much needed.
“So, thank you to Wear on behalf of all our animals and volunteers.”
Julie Wilkinson, from GSDR, said: “When I heard about the donation from Wear my reaction was ‘Oh wow that is fantastic!’. We are absolutely thrilled. Thank you so much to everyone at Wear for their support.”
